Each application must receive the endorsement by a local AIA \nChapter of membership, or be signed by 10 AIA members in good standing. \nAdditionally, the applicant must submit 7 letters of reference from \nmembers of the College of Fellows, civic and community officials, \nelected political leaders, or persons of significance who can attest to \nthe applicant\u2019s high moral and ethical outlook of architectural \npractice. A selection panel is assembled annually composed of Fellows \nfrom all parts of the United States. Each application is subjected to \nthe highest scrutiny and review by that jury."]]],[1,"p",[[0,[],0,"A special medal and sash are awarded to successful candidates at the \nannual national AIA convention and recipients are conferred the title, \n\u201cFellow of the American Institute of Architects\u201d. Most members use the \ninitials \u201cFAIA\u201d after their names in professional correspondence and \nwear the special medal and neck sash at black tie and formal events. In \nmost cases, recipients have made significant contributions in two or \nmore categories of the \u201cobjects\u201d listed above. The honor is conferred \nfor the life of the architect.
